Epic Opportunities is thrilled to announce 6 people served by the agency are the collective recipients of $6,550 through the Manitoba Marathon Grant; an opportunity made possible by United Way Winnipeg, in partnership with the Manitoba Marathon Foundation. The partnership’s contribution will support people served at Epic Opportunities to live more independently and transition to inclusive communities. Epic Opportunities is committed to giving every person they serve the opportunity to live a rich and full life. When supports are available and with contributions like this, every person can grow and achieve their highest potential.

“Thanks to generous community donors, funds raised through the Manitoba Marathon are stewarded and allocated in a partnership between United Way Winnipeg and the Manitoba Marathon Foundation.” said Jason Granger, Vice-President, Community Investment and Capacity Building. “United Way Winnipeg is proud to be part of this grant program focused on inclusion and supporting individuals living with an intellectual disability to live more independently.”

Last year, eight people served by Epic Opportunities were also recipients of the Manitoba Marathon Grant. Here are some words of feedback about the people served last year. Please note, initials are used instead of names to protect privacy.

Last year C.H. moved out of her family home to the community. When asked about the impact of the grant, her father shared that C.H. had adapted with ease during the transition to the new home due the addition of having her room being very similar to what she had home. He shared that the investment in making it feel almost identical made her feel so much more comfortable.

V.G. also received funds last year when they moved out of her family home into a home of her very own. She shared that the money really helped her get set up in their new apartment. She especially loves her dishes, wall art and bedding so much. All things that make a house home.

“A home is meant to be a safe space, promoting relaxation, personal growth, and meaningful connections, said Stacey Forest, Service Development & Outcomes Specialist at Epic Opportunities. “Initiatives such as this grant reduce the challenges some may experience when making a life change or transition. By providing this financial support, people have access to resources otherwise not available to them.”
