WAYS TO GIVE

Monetary Donations

With your monetary donations, we can continue offering a wide range of services that enhance quality of life and promote well-being. Whether you choose a one time, monthly or annual donation, your contribution helps us create a more inclusive and supportive community for all.

Tribute Gifts

For many people, marking a birthday, anniversary, or honoring a loved one is most meaningful through a heartfelt donation to a significant organization. A tribute gift, often given in place of a conventional present, is a thoughtful way to honor someone who has impacted lives or to celebrate a special event. Your gesture of tribute is deeply appreciated as you recognize a unique life while backing our initiatives at Epic Opportunities.

For additional information on making a tribute gift, feel free to reach out to Stephanie at stephaniek@epicmb.ca, and they will gladly assist you.

Partners and Sponsorships

Does your company want to invest in making the community more inclusive? Learn about making a larger impact as a partner. Your contribution will play a critical role in the success of an initiative or project that is critical in the community like our Bridging the Gap mental health initiative. There are also marketing sponsorship opportunities that can be linked with community initiatives such as our Epic in Bloom Gardening competition or Recognition Events. We believe that in partnership and sponsorship, both parties are able to achieve great value and together we can build a stronger community!

Planned Giving

Planned giving, also known as gift planning, is defined as a charitable donation which can be arranged during your lifetime but is not usually available until a future date. It provides future income for non-profits and charities and can include gifts such as cash, equity, property, life insurance or real estate. The following are some of the planned gifts which enable the Epic Opportunities Foundation to assist individuals with intellectual disabilities to live independently and thrive in the community:

Bequests & Wills

A bequest is the act of giving cash or property through the provisions of a will or estate plan and can be made to an individual, institution or charity. A bequest entitles your estate to a tax credit for the final income tax return thereby helping to reduce estate tax liability. There are two primary types of bequests: unrestricted and restricted. An unrestricted bequest allows the Epic Opportunities Foundation to use your gift where it is needed most. A restricted bequest allows you to determine where and how your gift should be used. The three most common types of RESTRICTED bequests are general, residual or contingent:

  • General: Epic Opportunities Foundation receives a specified amount, often cash
  • Residual: Epic Opportunities Foundation receives all or a percentage of the remaining estate after fulfilling other mandates
  • Contingent: Epic Opportunities Foundation receives all or part of the estate if other beneficiaries have passed away

Public Securities

The donation of stocks, bonds or mutual funds which have
appreciated in value is a tax effective way of partnering with Epic
Opportunities Foundation. Eligible securities include listed or
publically-traded securities, including:

  • Stocks and bonds
  • Treasury bills
  • Warrants and futures traded on approved stock exchanges
  • Mutual funds offered by Canadian mutual fund management companies

Gifting a public security to Epic Opportunities Foundation will help to reduce the tax on your capital gain (the difference between what you paid for a security and its current value). By donating a security you receive a charitable tax receipt for its value the same as you would for donating an equal amount in cash.

Life Insurance

By providing the gift of a life insurance policy to Epic Opportunities Foundation you will be helping us to address the future needs of the people we support in the community. By naming the Foundation as owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy, you will receive a charitable receipt for your premium payments. If the policy has been paid in full, you will receive a charitable receipt for the policy’s current cash surrender value, minus any outstanding loans against it. If money is still owed on your policy, you will receive a charitable receipt for the current value of the policy as well as for subsequent payments.
