We are actively looking for Supportive Roommates!

Epic Opportunities works alongside families and individuals who are passionate about sharing their homes with adults with intellectual disabilities. The living experience, also known as Home Share, is designed to provide individualized care in a nurturing, safe and stable home environment, promoting growth and encouraging personal choice and opportunity.

Why choose a Home Share?

It offers the option of a natural community living experience for those who choose to move out of their family home or leave their current housing situation (whatever that may be).

Who can be a Supportive Roommate?

Supportive Roommates can be individuals or couples, with or without children, living in the Winnipeg area, hailing from diverse backgrounds. Epic Opportunities looks for distinctive qualities in prospective Supportive Roommates. It is important to the Home Share experience that you:

  • Recognize the value of people who live with intellectual disabilities and are prepared to offer them care, support, guidance and patience, in a shared home environment.
  • Are emotionally, physically and financially stable.
  • Are supportive, compassionate and able to commit the time and energy needed to meet the needs of the person served. This includes supporting them to live fulfilling and rewarding lives as valued members of the community.
  • Acknowledge, advocate, and protect the rights of the person served.
  • Own or rent a home (house or apartment) that meets the needs of the person served and complies with provincial licensing standards.

How do I Become a Supportive Roommate?

Prospective Supportive Roommates will undergo an in-depth application process that includes:

  • Home Share application
  • Reference checks
  • Child Abuse Registry, Adult Abuse Registry, and Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Home Study Report (which includes a Personal History questionnaire)
  • Emergency First Aid
  • In-home interviews, home visits and a home inspection

With a commitment to health and safety, and in order to continue our mission “to provide person-centered services”, as a contractual condition, Epic Opportunities requires proof of full vaccination against COVID-19, for all new employees. (Exceptions and accommodations will be made for those who are exempt from receiving the vaccine due to legitimate, established reasons in accordance with Public Health and Human Rights. In these cases, reasonable supporting documentation will be required.)
