It’s Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, and today we spotlight Camika Edwards, a dedicated Direct Support Professional with Epic Opportunities since 2022. 

Camika’s work ethic, compassion, and commitment positively impact the team and those she supports. She actively seeks resources to enrich lives and connects people with valuable opportunities. Her exceptional communication skills and proactive approach foster collaboration and ensure important details are not overlooked. Camika builds meaningful relationships with those she supports, helping them connect with others. Her initiative and problem-solving skills enable individuals to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.

“The most rewarding part of being a DSP is seeing the genuine joy on my clients’ faces when they accomplish their goals. I find it deeply fulfilling to witness these moments, whether it’s helping them go on a long-awaited trip, secure a job, or simply navigate daily life with more independence—like shopping for groceries on their own. The smile they have when they achieve these milestones, big or small, is what makes it all worthwhile.

DSPs are vital to our community because they act as agents of change, creating and facilitating an environment of true inclusion. They help empower people with disabilities to live full lives and contribute to society in meaningful ways. When every individual is able to participate and contribute, the entire community becomes more balanced and progressive.”
